InkTober - Room to Grow - Page 4

Previous page.

As discussed, we're working from Simon Fletcher's InkTober prompts, specifically the second four of the Steampunk list - The Gentleman's Hat, The Inventor's Son, The Gardener, and The Princess.

1 - Close on Henrietta's feet, which hang a foot or so above the floor.
LETTERING NOTE: Once again, Baron Head's word balloon should be different from the usual to imply some dread is afoot - dread that will be abundantly clear by the page's end.

BARON HEAD (off-panel) (1): I'm sorry to have put off our meeting.

BARON HEAD (off-panel) (2): I knew your knowledge would be delicious.

BARON HEAD (off-panel) (3): But a healthy dollop of curiosity always makes things sweeter.

2 - Close on Henrietta's waist, which is ensnared in thorny vines as wide as an arm. They're puncturing her skin and causing her to bleed some.

BARON HEAD (off-panel): Thankfully, one often fuels the other.

3 - Close on Henrietta's eyes. The glaze is gone, replaced by pure fear.

BARON HEAD (off-panel): After your week of questions, you should be absolutely intoxicating.

4 - Reveal shot of the room. In life, Baron Head was a sickly old man who was poor of sight and overweight. Now he's only barely human, mostly consumed by horrible, unnatural plant growth. His head lolls to the side at an unnatural angle, pushed that way by a cancerous boil of vegetation engulfing his left arm and the upper-portion of his torso. His right arm hangs lamely at his side, strangely small and desiccated. Of course, this is only a detail, as the rest of his body has been completely consumed by an enormous mass of vegetation and roots that go through the floor / walls and into other parts of the house. Baron Head's vines hold Henrietta above a terrible maw that is ready to swallow her whole. She is terrified as ever, but completely overpowered and unable to resist.

BARON HEAD: I hope you feel the answer was worth it.

CAPTION (HENRIETTA): No matter the cost.

Fin.
